December Challenge: 2012 A Review

Hiya! Neelu here from God's own Country, Kerala. ;)

I had planned on making a '2012 A Review' scrapbook page in my mind before heading home and had carried few supplies with me. I'am having a really good time here and got to do some crafting too. :)) Apart from couple of downsides, 2012 brought a lot of blessings and happiness  in our lives. Alhamdulillah. With just three more days to go, I'am trying to do as much as possible to make this year even more memorable.

Summarizing a whole year on one page isn't easy. That's where making a photo collage helps. I use Picasa for photo editing purposes and it makes collages too. Do check it out.

Choosing photos from a whole year was a bit time consuming - I take loads of photos. Other than that, this page came about really quickly. After sticking down the collage and those Jumbo numbers, all I had to do was do a bit of writing. Bullet points make write ups to the point and easier to read. While writing I remembered few things I had forgotten to add to the collage (typical me). But that's okay. Those memories are documented in my Project Life album. :))

Oh, you can also see two different washis on this page - we are adding washis to our store once I'am back.  Yaaay!!

Hope you liked this page. Do participate in our challenge. Just few more days left!!

Happy Holidays
Neelu

December kit - Gesso and Crafter's Workshop template tutorial

Hi all... Donna here for another tutorial for you.

Been looking for gesso in this part of the world where I am at right now - in Hail, Saudi Arabia. There's only a couple of big bookstores here and craft stuff that I often use are very hard to find. SO imagine my excitement when finally I found one! :)

Take a look on how I used gesso on this particular layout I created with the December kit, Ring in the new.

I chose a printed paper for my background. I wanted to achieve a faded background effect.

I used sponge for spreading the gesso. The template I used here is the Crafter's workshop 6x6 Cosmic Swirl.

Do this all over the background paper as you can see below. Let the gesso dry completely. Cut four strips of paper and adhere it like so.

Use WOW! Glitter and Pop! Microbeads on the Maya Road Half Circle banner chipboard. I painted the scalloped chipboard first with white paint and inked the half circle with Prima Ink in Ladybug before adhering the glitters and microbeads on the chipboard. Place it as seen in the image.

You can now start designing your page. I built my background with strips of papers under the photos as you can see in the image below.

And this is the final layout after creating the title and designing the rest of the page.

That's it... hope you will get inspired by this simple tutorial I prepared. Link us up when you try this one! We'd love to see :)

Scrapbooking layout - Use your scraps: Handmade Flowers

Hello there crafters,

Good Morning!

I hope everybody is enjoying all the fun layouts and projects the designers here have been sharing!

This is Shruti here and I am here to tell you how a big hoarder I am. I hoard even the tiniest bit of scrap left from a project.. I never have the heart to throw them away as I feel I might just need them someday. So I thought I'd share one way to use your scraps.

Flowers!! Handmade flowers are one of the best way to use your scraps. You can either randomly fussy cut them.. or just draw a shape on ur scraps and cut them. The best thing about a paper flower is that they never have to perfect. Sometimes even an imperfectly cut flower ends up looking prettier than a perfect one.

I made a layout using these flowers.

A closer look at the flowers..

and the alphas.. (you'd know why.. once you see the tutorial) :)

December kit - Ring in the new

Hi folks! Donna here to share with you my creations using the yummylicious December kit, Ring in the new!

Christmas is my favorite season. I love the preparation, the decorating, wrapping gifts, the rush... I miss it so much since I came here in Saudi Arabia. So since I don't have any family pictures with my mother, siblings and their wives and children, I made one layout representing each of my siblings.

First is this layout about my Christmas last year.....

Not your typical Christmas layout nor Christmas picture. This is about how I spent my Christmas in a hospital when I was scheduled to have a D & C procedure on the eve of Christmas.

I traced and cut the Crafter's workshop 6x6 Mini Cosmic Swirl template and fuzzy cut the Chevron 12x12 paper by MME.

A tag hidden for the journaling underneath the The Sweetest Thing Love paper by MME

Second layout is about my youngest brother, his wife and little daughter...

Here I used gesso on the Crafter's workshop 6x6 mini cosmic swirl template and sprinkled Wow! Silver glitter while still wet. I love the Artisan Resistable Hearts by Pink Paislee. I just rubbed distress ink using a foam and the pattern showed through so beautifully. Love the effect!

Third and last layout is my page for my middle brother with his wife, children and our mother who is with him in Singapore....

I used double-sided tape to adhere the glitter and the microbeads onto the chipboard shapes. Layered small strips of Echo Park This & That Plaid and Dots paper. And yes, that's my handwriting on the title there, used  AC precision pen to write first and then a widen the stroke with my trusted Sakura aqualip pen.

I also made cards...

and some ornaments (using digital templates/cutting files by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs)

Hope you had fun checking out my projects as much as I made them! :)

Materials used:
- All from the December kit, Ring in the new, except My Mind's Eye Winter Wonderland Decorative tape, twine/red glittery crepe paper/red brad/chenille stems - from my stash)
- AC Knock outs basic scallop border punch
- AC Crafts tacky tape
- AC This to that foam tape
- Distress Ink
- Prima Ingrid Bolme Chalk fluid edger
- Crafter's Workshop 6x6 Mini cosmic swirl template
- Ranger Stickles glitter glue

Thank you for dropping by!

December Challenge: 2012 A Review

Good Morning friends!

Can you believe 2012 is almost over? Time sure flies fast! I had a lot of highs and lows this year. It was a year filled with mixed emotions.. thus I have a lot of fond and not-so-fond memories to remember this year.. and how better to do that than make a 2012 - a Review layout! :)

So here you go..

I chose to add a lot of embellishments on my layout. I must say both my layouts that I share with you guys today is inspired my one of my favorite scrapbookers.. Donna, who is also a part of our Designer Team. :) I just love they way she plays with embellies on her layout. Love love love her work!

There are a lot of little detailing on this layout.. One of my favorite is the twine I've used here. And how cool are those alphas.. I am crazy about Alphas!! Ask Neelu and you'd know.. I just keep hoarding them.. I mean.. you never know when you'd need some alphas.. so i always keep a stock ready.. ;)

I also splattered a bit of stamping ink around the layout.

Supplies used:

Amy Tangerine Sketchbook Paper Pad 6x6
My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing Love 12x12 pattern paper
Crate Paper Little Boy Blue Thickers
Dear Lizzy 5th and Frolic Chipboard shapes
Pebbles Crimson Glitter Foam Thickers (from the Christmas kit)

Die Cuts:                 Dear Lizzy Neapolitan Chipboard Shapes
                               Pink Paislee Artisan Resistible Butterflies
Twine:                    My Mind's Eye - Follow Your Heart - Be Happy Twine
                              October Afternoon Sidewalks Wrap Pack

The second layout screams YELLOW!

So my one and only dearest uncle, whom I fondly call 'Mams' had visited us in Dubai last month.. I love him to bits and he surely deserve a spot in my scrap book.

Stuck some twines on this layout too.. Am loving the effect it gives..

I added some color on to the die cut butterflies using some Tattered Angel's blue mist. For the background I sprayed through punchniella strip and splattered some stamping ink randomly on to the card stock.

Supplies used:

My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing 'Honey' 6x6 Paper pad
                               Dear Lizzy Glitter Letter Thickers
                               Dear Lizzy Neapolitan Chipboard Shapes
Hero Arts Midnight Black Accent Pearls
Die Cuts:                 Dear Lizzy Neapolitan Chipboard Shapes
                               Pink Paislee Artisan Resistible Butterflies
                               October Afternoon Sidewalks Wrap Pack
Others:                   Glossy Accent
Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist - Blue Skies
                              Black Punchinella Strip

That is it for now. I hope you guys liked my layouts and are inspired make one of your own..

That's it for now. Obviously I still have few pages left as there is one whole December to go through before we move on to 2013. If you ask me how I choose the photos to include, I basically just scrolling through all of our photos for 2012, and choose whatever memories that I want to include in this book. Not necessary I have a memory for each month, sometimes just one, sometimes even 3-4 memories. But up to know, I love this book, its really a mini project life, whatever that scream 2012 to us.

Happy scrapping to all of you

Cheers

Riri
