Here are some detailed shots of the layout.
Here is a photo of the altered chipboard. Photo tutorial on how I created the texture click here.

A New Beginning - celebrating life, card complilation

As we are in the beginning of the year, its just but right to celebrate. In parallel, birthdays are celebrated too since it signifies new life, new beginning. My card for today will be fit isn't it? a happy birthday card. With the stamps that I used for this project, this will be good for a little boy's birthday.

I used the rocket stamp from My Mind's Eye Boy Crazy stamp set and used the bearing piece to stamp randomly in the patterned paper's circle design. It just ties the boy look on this card. The sentiment is from Pebbles though.

To coordinate the envelope with this card, I also stamped the same stamp elements outside the envelope.

And again a closer look of the project

Miss You card

This one is just one of my favorite style, clean and simple card (also know as CAS).

I have the chipboard thickers in my stash and decided to make use of this in today's project.
I did a combination of papers from Fancy Pants and the mini note card from Webster's as it just brings the right patterns and colors.

To bring some texture in the card, I normally emboss the card base to keep some dimensions to it, the same as what I did here.

For my love birds, I used Lawn Fawn's Christmas stamp set but only the bird and heart stamps. Isn't it great to get a versatile stamp that can be used all throughout the year, not only for the holidays but also for non-holiday card? Love that. I did a mirrored stamping of the bird, this replicates the blue bird in the right.

Here's a closer look of the sentiment thickers. The crisscrossed design on this alpha just adds more character into the chipboard which I also like about this element.

I Do - A new beginning card

On this card, I did a non-traditional wedding card.

The color of this card is more cheery and bright compared to traditional wedding colors such as silver, and other muted tone. I however think that we can still add colors to a wedding card by adding some fun elements to it and try out something new.

I used Allison Kreft mini-folder in front of the card but rather than keeping the front panel as plain, I die cut the center with a small circle and added a vellum in the middle to emphasize the chipboard heart.

I altered the chipboard by embossing it with gold. This will also complement the yellow card base that I used.

Inside the folder, I also embossed the 'I Do' to match the heart outside. I also added the two birds above to give an impression for a couple. The bird stamps came from Lawn Fawn's Christmas stamp collection but i was able to use some of the stamp elements form non-holiday card too such as this one.

There's still time to join in this month's "A New Beginning Challenge" so you can track back the Pretty paper Studio blog for more inspiration.

Have a great day and I'll catch up again soon.

Celebrate Everyday: Project Life with Neelu

Hiya! It's been a while since we talked about Project Life, isn't it? Not to worry. Neelu to the rescue! (We will see about that!)

Jokes apart, I'am happy to re-start our Celebrate Everyday series. This is my second attempt at Project Life and I'am hoping my enthusiasm won't fizz out. I know I'am not giving a very enthusiastic start here, but honesty is the best policy. Right?

If you are new to Project Life, then I suggest you watch this video. Project Life is a memory keeping system introduced to the world by the ever talented Becky Higgins. This system is for everyone. And by that, I do mean everyone! Single or married. With or without Children. With or without pets. High school or college student. 20 or 60 years old. Your age or status in life has nothing to do with PL aka Project Life. It is about you! Your memories. Those moments whether silly or serious. Your days whether boring or too busy to catch a breath. It is about your life. It is about you - the most important person in your life.

Like I said before, this is my second attempt at PL. I had started sometime in September 2012 and kind of stopped in early 2013. Why? Laziness. Being busy. I could give a number of reasons. Then why come back? Because I miss it. Very much. I was going through my old PL album, Ramadan Journals and was flooded with emotions. I miss seeing my life in photos and words. Scrapbooking isn't just a hobby for me. Yes, it is therapeutic. It gives me a creative outlet. But it also helps me document. And Project Life is the easiest and simplest way to do it. Period.

So here is my title page for 2014. I'am using Party Day 12x12" Album this year. I'am using the Big Variety Pack 1 of photo packet pages at the moment. Design A is my personal favorite. Oh, and I print photos at home using Canon Selphy.

Since I didn't do much documenting in 2013, I decided to do a two pages' spread with some of the highlights of the year. Summarizing a year into two pages isn't easy, but well worth the effort.

As you can see, I have kept the pages very simple. I'am fine with it, as of now. I may get creative later or may not. I have decided to just go with the flow and not overwhelm myself. Hopefully, it will work.

If you are on the fence about starting Project Life, I say do it. Yes, just do it! It doesn't matter whether you go for 12x12 spreads or smaller versions. It doesn't matter whether you finish the whole year or few weeks. Whatever gets documented in whichever way is going to make you happy and grateful. Trust me.

If you have already started with PL, I would love to see photos of your spreads. Do leave your blog/image link in the comment section.

See you soon with Week 1-3 spreads!

January Challenge Intro - Part 1

Happy New Year everyone!!!  Our challenge theme for this month is "new beginnings". I created a layout using a photo of my son making snow angels as my insipiration. My kids love snow so much and I think this would be a beginning of a new family tradition - white christmas!!!

Here is the layout I created for this month's challenge..

I began by creating the background using Golden Light Molding Paste and Blue Fern Studios Marrakesh Panel as stencil. While the medium is still wet I sprinkled some distress glitter the use my heat tool to dry the medium.

Then I layered stamped papers, stickers and washi tape together. Adding and layering more embellishment along the way.

The last step I do is to add paints and mist and sometimes gesso all over the page.

Watch out for part 2 and 3...

paper

sticker

metal embellishment
